Volodymyr Volianiuk designed and illustrated the cover for Ballad of the Blade, all the interior chapter headers, and is currently working with me on additional art for the series and website. He has been so great to work with, and his talent is only ever surpassed by his fantastic attitude. I highly recommend him.
Brandon needs no introduction, but we can blather on a bit anyway. He is an amazing author who’s sold more books than most of us can even dream of, and he’s a pillar of the fantasy community. I do highly recommend his series, but more importantly, he teaches a writing class at BYU that is phenomenal, and entirely free on YouTube. Why, you might ask? Well, that’s just the type of guy he is.
When Jess first read and edited my manuscript, it was not ready for human consumption. There was so much red on the page that I wondered if she’d accidentally taken it with her on a terrible trip to the emergency room. At first glance, I was a little disheartened, but on second look, it was clear that Jess had something only great line editors possess. She can see when you have a sentence flipped or a thought that isn’t quite clear, and knows how to rearrange things while keeping your voice intact. The only good reason I can think of not to recommend Jess is to keep her schedule open for my projects. But that wouldn’t be very fair to her, or you, for that matter, since this industry needs more great line editors.
It was clear from the start that Jena was a fantastic editor. She knows CMOS, syntax, and other silly terms only editors care about like the back of her hand, and weilds them like an expert surgeon with a scalpel. All jokes aside, she's phenomenal at her trade. Not only is she extremely detail-oriented, but she was also willing to patiently explain rules to me as I muddled through all of her amazing markups. Jena was officially the copy editor on Ballad of the Blade, but it was clear she was also skilled with line and developmental edits. I really appreciate her and hope she remains available to edit the rest of this series to a mirrored shine.
